Rik
started playing the guitar from the age of eight.
When he turned fifteen he decided to go and
teach himself some more. Listening to music of
the sixtees, old blues, folk, country and jazz,
enough to get busy with and break the mind, he
went on by himself.
In 1997
he and guitarist Arne Wolfswinkel started a band
called the Chimney Brothers. (also check
www.chimneybrothers.nl & www.muze-records.nl).
He was bombed also to be the singer of the band,
and gradually he learned and started to like
that too.
In
2002 Rik left for the States, to travel from New
Orleans to New York, with his bicycle and
guitar. And go places where he could find the
music he liked where it originaly came from. He
also took with him a small recorder. Back in
Holland he found he had enough material to
choose from and bring something out, his first
own album called: a musical impression of a
journey, From New Orleans to New York. It
contains music written and played by himself, by
musicians on the
street and on some tracks he plays along with
other musicians.
Still
playing with the Chimney Brothers, Rik is also
busy playing and recording his own songs. Soon
there will be a new album out containing some of
his own songs and due to be released hopefully
summer 2004.
